You don't have to have the answer.

We can start by finding where you are.

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Sometimes you don't need somebody to tell you what to do.

You need somewhere you can say what's actually happening.

Somewhere you don't have to tidy everything up before you speak.

You might feel overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, disconnected or simply aware that something doesn't feel quite right.

Spiritual Counselling offers a gentle, grounded space to slow things down, be heard and begin understanding what's here.

You don't have to know what it means yet.

Start with what's happening.

You don't need the right words.

You don't need a diagnosis.

And you don't need to arrive knowing what you want to change.

You might come because:

  • your head feels full
  • everything feels like too much
  • you're going through change
  • you're struggling with a decision
  • you don't quite feel like yourself
  • you're questioning something about your life
  • you're noticing the same patterns appearing again
  • you're feeling disconnected
  • something has happened that you need space to process
  • you're questioning your beliefs or spiritual life
  • you're carrying something you haven't really had anywhere to put
  • you simply need somebody to listen

Whatever brings you through the door gives us somewhere to begin.

The problem isn't the diagnosis. It's the doorway.

What you're experiencing matters.
But it doesn't have to become a label that defines you.

So what makes it spiritual?

The word spiritual doesn't mean I'm going to give everything that happens to you a spiritual explanation.

It means there's room for that part of life if it's important to you.

Alongside your thoughts, feelings, relationships and everyday experiences, there can also be space to explore:

meaning connection beliefs intuition identity values symbolism spiritual experiences changing beliefs questions that don't always have neat answers

You might have a strong spiritual practice.

You might be questioning everything you used to believe.

Or spirituality might barely enter the conversation at all.

All are welcome.

You don't have to speak a spiritual language to be heard here.

You don't always need fixing.

When something is difficult, people often rush towards solutions.

Advice.

Techniques.

Positive thinking.

A plan.

Another thing to try.

Sometimes those things are useful.

But sometimes we need to understand what's happening before trying to change it.

Spiritual Counselling gives us room to listen first.

To notice what you're feeling.

What you're thinking.

What you know.

What you're afraid might happen.

What keeps repeating.

What matters.

And what perhaps hasn't had enough room to be heard yet.

Before I reach for a tool,I listen.

What happens in a session?

There isn't a script.

We begin with whatever you're bringing that day.

Sometimes most of the session may simply be conversation.

At other times, a question, reflection or gentle practice might help us look at something differently.

Not everybody needs every approach.

And I don't begin a session with a list of techniques I intend to get through.

Person first. Tool second.

Depending on you and what we're exploring, sessions may include:

  • supportive conversation
  • reflective questioning
  • counselling skills
  • CBT-informed reflection
  • exploring thoughts and patterns
  • values
  • boundaries
  • grounding
  • gentle breath or relaxation
  • visualisation
  • journalling or reflection between sessions
  • spiritual or symbolic exploration where relevant

Grounded doesn't have to mean clinical.

Part of my approach has been shaped by my counselling and CBT learning.

That can help us gently look at things such as:

What do I actually know right now?

What am I worried might happen?

Is there another way of looking at this?

Whose expectation am I carrying?

What keeps happening here?

What do I need rather than what do I think I should need?

These aren't questions designed to argue you out of your feelings.

They're ways of creating a little more room around them.

Sometimes seeing something differently changes what comes next.

Sometimes it simply helps us understand why things feel as they do.

Grounded and spiritual can sit in the same room.

If spirituality is important to you, you don't need to leave it outside.

We might talk about meaning.

Intuition.

A spiritual experience.

A symbol or dream that has stayed with you.

Your relationship with nature.

A change in your beliefs.

A sense of connection — or the loss of it.

We can be curious about those experiences without insisting there is one correct explanation for them.

You decide what they mean to you.

What I won't do.

I won't tell you how you're supposed to feel.

What you're experiencing is where we begin.

I won't rush you towards a positive answer.

Sometimes something needs to be understood before it can change.

I won't decide that everything has a spiritual cause.

There can be many ways of understanding an experience.

I won't tell you what major life decision to make.

We can explore choices together. The decision remains yours.

I won't throw every technique I know at you.

If we use a tool, there should be a reason for using it.

I won't pretend to offer something outside my professional scope.

If you need support beyond what I can appropriately provide, I'll be open about that.

What might you leave with?

There isn't one outcome you're supposed to achieve.

You might leave:

  • feeling heard
  • calmer
  • understanding yourself a little better
  • seeing a situation differently
  • recognising a pattern
  • clearer about what matters
  • knowing what you don't want
  • more connected to yourself
  • with something useful to reflect on
  • knowing a next step
  • realising you don't need to make a decision yet

Or perhaps simply feeling:

“I finally had somewhere to put that.”

That matters too.

Spiritual Counselling or Spiritual Life Coaching?

There's naturally some overlap between them.

Spiritual Counselling

Gives more room to what you're experiencing now — your emotions, thoughts, patterns, uncertainty and whatever might need to be heard or understood.

Spiritual Life Coaching

Tends to lean more towards direction, values, choices, meaning and what you might want to move towards.

You don't have to decide which one fits before getting in touch.

Tell me where you are.

We can work out the most appropriate place to begin together.

Part of a wider Wayfinder approach.

Spiritual Counselling also sits naturally within my wider Wayfinder approach.

Wayfinder isn't about somebody else handing you a map.

It's about slowing things down enough to understand the landscape you're actually standing in.

Sometimes counselling is part of that.

Sometimes another form of support is more appropriate.

And sometimes being heard is the beginning.

The Wayfinder is you.

A note about the support I offer

Spiritual Counselling at Authentic Self is a supportive, reflective space and works within the boundaries of my training and experience.

It isn't a substitute for medical care, specialist mental health treatment, psychotherapy or emergency/crisis support.

If something you're experiencing needs support outside my professional scope, I'll be honest about that and encourage you towards appropriate help.

You don't need to work everything out before you begin.

You don't need the right words.

You don't need to know exactly what you need.

And you don't need to arrive with an answer.

We can start with where you are.

A gentle note for the quietly searching.
